Dr. Porter was born in Dayton, Ohio, and moved to the South in 1969. He attended Shades Valley High before moving on to Montevallo University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology/Pre-Med. Upon graduating, he attended UAB Dental School, where he graduated with his Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 1983.

Dr. Porter is married to Sharon Haygood of Decatur, and they have two sons, Trey and Tyler. He has been in private practice for 37 years and just loves dentistry too much to quit!
